At Gigi's Guppies in Fort Lauderdale, our mission is simple: water safety first. The core of our teaching is the swim-float-swim method—a proven, life-saving sequence that equips even the youngest swimmers with the tools they need to survive an accidental fall into water.

The Sequence: How It Works

  • Swim: The child propels forward using whatever strokes they can manage. It doesn’t need to be perfect—it just needs to get them moving toward safety.

  • Float: When tired, the child rolls onto their back to rest and breathe. This resets their energy and keeps them calm.

  • Swim (again): After regaining breath, they flip back over and continue swimming toward safety.

By alternating between swimming and floating, a child can conserve energy, maintain oxygen, and create a reliable survival cycle—swim, breathe, rest, repeat—until they reach the edge or help arrives.

Why It Works
Children don’t have endless stamina in the water. The float is the game-changer. It teaches them that survival isn’t about nonstop movement—it’s about pacing, breathing, and staying in control. That confidence carries over into all areas of swimming, turning the water from something overwhelming into something manageable.

We’ve seen this method empower toddlers as young as six months. It’s not just swimming—it’s survival. And it’s one of the greatest gifts you can give your child around water. We work with families across Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors, and Oakland Park — if you're ready to get started, we'd love to connect.
